Dan Gossi, Mouth Music partner, and the builder of these mouthbows, passed away on September 9, 2015. "The bow is in perfect condition and it is GORGEOUS!!! It's probably the best one that I've ever personally played on. It sounds amazing. Really clear and resonant. There's a really sweet spot right in the middle of the mouthpiece where the overtones just shoot out."D. Morgan - Vancouver |

Wayland Harman on the Reeded Mouthbow tuned to "D". This single string mouthbow
has a super resonant area (the reed), focusing the strings sound into the
players mouth. A shoulder mounted microphone captures the sound from within the
mouth adding to the clarity of the harmonics.

Single StringUS$ 200.00 ea. Two in stock, but please inquire by phone or feedback form.. The current mouthbows are constructed of Tennessee Cedar with maple components, but various other woods including cedar, black willow, kakoui nut, or other woods may be used. The bow is approx. 34? long and features a high quality guitar-type tuner and string. The overtones are strong and clear, as compared to other mouthbows which are inherently quiet instruments. This is largely due to Wayland's unique reed design that transfers more of the string's energy to the player's mouth. Includes striking stick and instructions for play and maintenance. Double StringUS$
230.00 ea. Two in stock, but please inquire by phone or feedback form. The 2-string mouthbow retains all of the quality features of the single-string mouthbow and is currently being made of black willow with maple components, but cedar or other woods maybe used. Adding an additional string, provides the ability to tune both strings to the same pitch for extra volume. They can also be tuned a third, fifth, or octave apart for richer harmonics and overtones. The additional string also provides the player greater creativity and versatility. International shipping by agreement |

Reed & SpringThe string passes though the instrument body allowing one to strike on the front of the string while placing one's mouth on the back. The oval center of the reed is thinned to be super-resonant; So thin that light can be seen through the wood. The tip of the bow's frame is thinned to act as a spring which supports the reed, while allowing it to vibrate. A Side view of the reed shows how the string is placed directly between the supporting points at the reed's base, thus keeping the string tension pulling straight through the reed. 10 Mouthbows - 10 Years of Experimentation
A wide array of designs incorporating a reed with the string. The first bow (leftmost), built in 1993 was NOT an improvement as compared to the basic stick on string which Wayland first heard at the NAJHF. Subsequent designs also failed to satisfy Wayland's hope for LOUD harmonics... that is until the current reed design was perfected.
Some of the pictured bows use a Clackamore hammer to strike the string, most notably the second from the right, which also has the string inside the main body. This design may become available as a future product. The mouthbow on the far right is the current production model.
